Guide Choice Hares Ear Bead Head Soft Hackle Nymph

Guide Choice Hares Ear Bead Head Soft Hackle Nymph

Today we are doing our spin on a timeless classic the Guides Hares Ear Soft Hackle Nymph.  This pattern is a must-have in most fly fishing guides boxes.  It is both quick and easy to tie, but also durable, and deadly effective.  These are some very important things to look at when choosing what pattern to tie.  With the materials substitutions, we make here the possibilities become endless to your imagination.  This pattern can be fished anywhere you would fish a hares ear nymph and can be tied unweighted as well.  We would love to see what you tie.

One of our favorite ways to fish this pattern is with an unweighted Guides Choice Hares Ear Soft Hackle. You can do different colors, or make them in colors to match.  We like matching colors to imitate the same insect at two different depths of the feeding zone.  This doubles our chances at fish, as well as helps us find the right depth for feeding fish.  Enjoy the endless possibilities with this pattern variation.

This pattern is fished very effective as an anchor pattern hugging the stream bed before swinging towards the surface.  We have found the soft hackle to make this pattern absolutely deadly when dead drifted with the soft hackle giving the fly movement and life.  When finishing the drift and the swing it triggers some amazing and ferocious strikes taking an emerging insect.  You can also drop this off a big dry fly such as a hopper dropper, as your dropper fly.
