As a fly fishing guide and rod builder, I’ve lost count of how many fly rods I own. I’m a big fan of the modern fiberglass tapers, and after picking up the 8'2" 6wt, I’m hooked. This rod effortlessly shoots big streamers and makes every cast a blast. Whether targeting big lake fish or aggressive river brown trout, it has quickly become my go-to glass rod—for both myself and my clients!
The new series of S2 glass rods are definitely are an up grade from the old Lunar glass. I built a 7’6” 4 wt. on the old red blank and for the money that rid’s performance is quite impressive.
The new blanks/ rods are lighter and action is a nice crisp medium fast that casts well at 20’ but has plenty of reverse power to toss 50’ plus casts with nice tight loops. I really like the olive green color.
I realize this is sub $200 rod, but the cork on my rod is not that great and has a lot of fill. The finish work is decent, the green wraps are nice. The reel seat is much nicer than the old rods and holds the reel firmly in place. For the price its a pretty good rod and if your wanting to try glass you can’t go wrong. These rods are one of the nicer series in that $200 range better than Redington Butter sticks or Echo Riverglass.
Had the 2,4,6 and 8wt of the previous lunar glass. With very little price change the overall quality is significantly better in the S2 rods. I replaced all four of my older model rods and found that the recovery, action and overall build were stepped up for the new generation. Also customer service is next level on response time.
These are awesome, just like the rest of Moonlit rods. You're not going to find a better rod for the buck! In the under $500 category Moonlit has no competition!
I currently own the 2wt, 3wt, 4wt and 6wt. If that give you any indication on how much I like these rods. I have had one warranty issue, and I am not sure that the issue wasn't my fault, but they immediately took care of me! So, the products are terrific, and their customer performance matches the quality of their products.
I pre-ordered the S2 in a 6wt. It will be my do anything rod; chasing bass, hitting the white bass run that is just starting, fishing streamers on the Guadalupe, etc. I am very interested to see how much lighter these rods are over the previous edition, that would be my only complaint on the current model 6wt is the swing weight, but that is a minor complaint. I am excited to try the new S2!
