Mayer’s Weasel Mini Leech Fly Tying Kit

Tie the Mayer’s Weasel Mini Leech—a compact, weighted streamer that combines the proven profile of Landon Mayer’s Mini Leech with the controlled movement and fine texture of Moonlit Weasel Zonker.

This material variation replaces the traditional pine squirrel tail and ostrich-herl collar with weasel. A narrow 2mm Weasel Zonker strip creates the tail, while the same material is removed from the hide and spun in a dubbing loop to form the collar. Using weasel throughout gives the fly a unified profile that flows naturally from the collar into the tail.

The fine underfur helps maintain a compact silhouette, while the mobile guard hairs create subtle movement and water displacement. Rust Brown Ice Dub adds a restrained flash through the center of the fly, and the Hot Orange Barred Black weasel provides contrast and visibility without making the pattern bulky.

Weighted with a 4.0mm Slotted Tungsten Cone and tied on the Moonlit TOGATTA ML511, this Mini Leech gets down quickly and maintains an animated profile—even when retrieved slowly. Fish it dead-drifted through deeper runs, swung across current, or stripped through lakes and stillwater.
