Omg ive been bass fishing my whole life but wanted/was obsessed with trout fishing in streams especially the ppl i saw on espn outdoors cuz they never kept fish. So as a child i thought well i either have to fly fish or bass fish if i wanted to release fish. Well i became obsessed with everything bass my grandma even retired from fenwick so i knew alot about tech side of rods wich still to this day im obsesed with ( i still finess bass fish on spining rods but prefer fly) any way when i was 12 i said i wanna live w my dad in so cal permanently not 2 month out of year like i was and i had fishing take back seat to surfing fast forward 5 years n a gf saw some guys catch trout at a put n take n begged me to take her well found out so cal had some ok fly streams so i taught my self n was now in my 20s staying in mammoth w a guide friend who told me bro id rather be fly fishing ur area then mine n im like huh he starts naming the big bass lakes, corbina, leopard sharks and now for last 15 years is fly fish for largemouth i have fished with or own 100s of rods n i swear these WILL MAKE YOU A BETTER CASTER u can launch huge flys miles. Just wish the 7wt wasn't so butt ugly.If they see this any chance on making a 7’11” 7wt in a yellow specifically for bass. Ive got pics of me pulling 5ers outta local pond Neway long review if on fence pay the 160 dont be a kook like i was paying 1100 for rods that dont preform like these do.

I am pretty impressed by the blue #8 and the 7 but that's a different review. I'm a part-time fly fishing guide in Somers Point New Jersey we have tough conditions some of the toughest in all of fishing. Our average wind is probably 19 mph, and sometimes the fish literally have a mile between them but you don't know until you cover water and they won't let you get within 50 ft of them generally, so we have a lot of trouble with fatigue. I'm really impressed the way that the moonlit blanks fling the line for you and I own many other fiberglass rod blanks both high-end and low end and they don't work like the moonlit does. That flinging the line, might be the coolest thing ever. it pretty much casts for me, which helps when you literally have to cover a mile of water casting no less than 75 ft every cast if you expect to catch anything. The blank works unbelievably for this and the heavy eight weight cuts through the wind and handles all of the modern tapers of fly line very well. I gave it to one of my monthly charter patrons and the second he picked it up he insisted on buying it from me, so I had to order another one ha. Glad to do it. They're nice blanks and I have a high-end taste. Everyone needs some of these blanks they are literally that awesome and the flinging the line thing is unbelievable and I never saw anything like it in 35 years of fly fishing almost daily. Keep up the good work, and if you ever take your wives gambling in Atlantic City look me up!

First off, what amazing customer service Moonlit offers. I built out this rod primarily to be beaten on by kids for coho but I’ve since used it for steelhead nymphing and wow! It’s an incredibly soft but powerful rod, and on the first 12lb hen the rod was nicely bent over into the cork.

It was at this point I wish I went with a 1.5 or 1.75 fighting butt over the 1 inch. But it still had grunt to move that fish and look forward to many more. The blank was an easy build.

I do wish the logo wasn’t screen printed and resin coated. You cannot remove it so I tied over it for an extended apron hook keeper. A little annoyed with the modern brands and their logo placement on blanks.

Since then I’ve hooked an early fall and the kids have grabbed a few coho on the salt. It’s a great rod with enough power to booth work in a shooting line setup (SA 240 Skagit) or throw big bugs and indicators with our heavy WF7 line.
